Rob woke up feeling a little queasy still, so we piddled around until after lunch. Poor Abbi hurt her toe this morning. I think she may have broke it.
We decided to go downtown after lunch. I wanted to just get out of the room, get some fresh air, and see the sights. We hadn't been downtown Vicenza yet, so it sounded good. First of all, there was something going on like a soccer game or something in the arena, so it was packed. We walked around for a couple of hours, took a few pictures, and then decided to head back to the car which was about a half mile away. As we were strolling along on the way back to the car, this drunk guy that was walking in front of us (about 20 feet) suddenly throws a big metal easel looking sign into the street and almost hits this guys antique Model T or something. The guy jumps out of the car and they start discussing the situation. First of all, if this would've happened in the states, there would be no discussion, the man would've jumped out of the car throwing punches. The drunk man just decides to go on about his business, picks up some cardboard fruit crates from the sidewalk and throws them out into the street and hits a different car. The driver stops in the middle of the street (I just knew it was on then!) and he and the passenger get out of the car and proceed to politely ask him what and why he was doing this. I was sooo SHOCKED! The drunk man, yet again, decides to blow the situation off and continue in the direction we were headed. We had stopped behind him for fear that he would do something stupid to one of us and I would GO OFF! We increased the distance between us and the fruit loop at this point. The other drivers of the cars were also following behind us, like they were tracking the guy. They had the police on the phone and were leading them to the guy. We could still see him pretty good and could tell that he was doing something in the trash can ahead. About that time, we saw smoke coming out of the trash can. That freak had started a fire in the trash can! Rob busts out laughing saying, "What is this guy doing?!" I am getting frantic at this point and very uncomfortable. Rob runs ahead, takes off his shoes, and proceeds to "stomp" out the fire. We got to the car and the other drivers had motioned the police to where the man was in the parking lot. The police pull up right behind our car, so Rob did his best to explain to the officer that in addition to being a crazy, sign/box wielding fruit loop, the guy is also a trash can arsonist. He thanked us and we were on our way. Beware! Stupid people are everywhere! lol! What a scene that was!
After all this excitement, we decided to go to the mall to get something to eat. While we were walking around outside, we saw a cleared spot with little houses built and a red carpet path that led into the middle of the little houses. It was a cat community! Weird. There were cats just roaming around at the mall. They have their own mall front property and all. Little houses with a driveway. Really. This place just gets more and more interesting.
A friend informed me tonight not to visit the beaches or local Italian pools due to the nudity problem here. They say that the locals just let it all hang out. This may become an issue for me.
I had forgotten to tell about our lunch at the Chinese restaurant. The food was magnificent, but the best part was the floor!!!! The entire floor of the restaurant was glass and below it was a fish pond. It was huge. The kids loved it. They sat in the middle of the floor looking at the fish. Fisher laid on his belly with his face on the glass staring at the fish. I had to remind myself that it was still a dirty restaurant floor and make him get up. ick! But it was still very cool.
So much to see and do. Hope we fit it all in to three years! :) Only thing left to see tonight however, is my eyelids! Nightie! Click here to see the pictures we've added to our Italy Fun collection!
